Marvelous Mud opens at DAM

I can only say that I am so proud and very excited to have gotten to witness this historic moment. Go Ceramics! Go Art! This show was both amazing and as with many of the "craft" media, long overdue. I am inspired to begin my own installation work. The other aspects of the show, not pictured here were curated well, and incorporating important art historical elements of ceramic work through multiple cultures. Bravo Brendan and the multitude of other artists involved.

Memorial Day Weekend

Discovered the true meaning of trouble.

And enjoyed every single minute of it.

Thus the quote for the weekend, "Ugh oh, Several Fridays ago!"

Chapstick

Waiting out the hours
Pacing back and forth
Twinkling of the lights
Over the Parthenon tonight

Modern day Venus
With chapstick in her hand
Nothing important to spin
Only tattered rags from the bargain bin
Toga to go
In this world of everything now
Patience is a potion
Applied daily lip lotion

Dine out for Life

My first experience with Dine out for Life involved not being able to get into the first choice restaurant and going instead to Everest Cafe when it was located on Washington. I didn't quite understand its awesomeness at this point. I did however appreciate Dine out as a way to enjoy a meal with friends while supporting a good cause.

Tomorrow, I plan to take advantage at every meal. First, Cafe Osage with Miriam to send her off for her trip to Chicago. Digest a little and then attempt to get into Atomic Cowboy at lunchtime; they donate 100% and are near impossible to get into. For dinner I have not yet decided, but I do wish that some of my first buds from that initial time were here to share it with.

I am getting all nostalgic this time of year. Perhaps I am just in some sort of sinus stuper.

Thinking ahead
Forgetting the past
Last foot forward
Leads a path back

Octodog-Food entertainment

Firstly, I am an adult but food can be fun- Recently I was given the rare opportunity to borrow an Octopus Hotdog slicer. This makes complete sense, don't be fooled. I have tried to identify the basic steps involved in making your hotdog eating about 55% more awesome. Step one- borrow the Octopus Hotdog slicer. Step two- buy hotdogs. Step three- carefully shove hotdog 3/4 of the way through plastic slicer. Step four- remove slicer and add the hotdog to boiling water. Step five- prepare your Octopi Garden. Step six- Bon Appetite.

I am crossing my fingers that this somehow makes it onto MBMBaM.

+Hooray for Art

Tonight Craft Alliance had a major ball. I made an outfit just for the event and attempted to wear 5 inch heals for a ridiculous amount of time.

It made me proud to be in a room full of such cool and wonderfully creative people.

LOL-in' once again

The world can be an interesting thing to observe. It has things in it that don't make a ton of sense and those have been enjoyable to discover over the last couple of days. Newly, I have been told about a My Brother, My Brother and Me. I think it has changed my life. Thank you McElroy brothers for your delightful brand of humor. I can live again and relish making dinner and breakfast while listening to shows!

Please think of enjoying...

OCD Much?

Today I witnessed a very peculiar and yet quite wonderful species at STL Bread Co. A chap was sitting at a table with his coffee and a newspaper. He was brought his meal. I glanced quickly up from my sketchbook because I heard the worker ask if this was "ok?"
The man had been brought three very well done bagels. I tried to focus back on the sketchbook-- but to my surprise the man said thank you. I kept thinking someone else was going to join him. Could he really have ordered 3 bagels? Yes, in fact he then proceeded to butter each half of the three burnt bagels. I could hear the scraping of the knife as I attempted to draw something other than circles within my compositions. The man buttered them all completely and placed first the bottom bagel, butter side up and then its corresponding top, butter side up on top of its mate. After he completed all three bagels in this same manner, he placed all the butter tubs inside one another. Then each of the bagels was turned into two stacks. The bottoms, butter side up in one stack and the tops, butter side up in the other. He then opened his newspaper and began to read. I witnessed while even-though the bagels were now in two distinct stacks the man would eat first a bottom and then a top. Each of the piles slowly depleted. Time didn't allow for me to watch this loveliness play itself out completely but in general- THIS WAS AWESOME TO SEE.

Curios and curiouser
Bagels three
Burnt and buttered
Stacked and eaten

Weekend of St. Louis Music

Friday night was adorned with a trip to Off Broadway to see Pokey Lafarge and the Southside Three. It was awesome- beyond the bodily harm I thought I would get via "the dancers." I pictured going to work with a shiner. I guess it would have been a real story to tell. I spent the night angry and prepared to strike back at these "artists" expressing their bodies alongside the music. I like to dance too, but I respect my personal bubble.

The show was awesome, great St. Louis music! I was happy to be in the city and see such an interesting crowd come together for the event. I purchased my very own record and can't wait to spin it in the studio.

Work the next day was ok- Found out that Doc died. The parents are now without a dog to herd the cattle. Will see how long this lasts.

Then the evening was complete with a meet-up with friends at Pi and a walk down the block to Blueberry Hill to see the Knife Fight. All in all, an enjoyable evening. The weather is beginning to warm and people seem to be getting a bit feistier around here.

Miss my buddies in other states and countries-- xoxo

Two in one day-no way!

Thinks I think
My pretty pink cheek sustains lashes
Cuts that you played and the stains stayed
Despicable, non applicable as you and I lied
Disdain comes in plain Mary Jane
Posing and pausing and waiting for free water
A cheek's deposit found a slip on my studio floor

A Textile reunite -SOME

I had the great opportunity to get to see Alicia and Erin along with the lovely Christine. We had a brunch and chat in Dogtown. It sounds like the wedding prep is well on the way for Erin. Alicia is enjoying her new gig teaching and there may yet be a wine and cheese party at her place any day now.

As for Pete and Christine they are quiet the pair and it will get better when Baby Ruth enters the picture. I hope to have photos of that, well not the birth, but the whole family, sometime next month!

I miss the other grads who have been a part of my experience- you all rock!

Waiting for Spring

Longing and waiting

It has been a busy and overwhelming, yet productive week. Feeling a bit crazy trying to be patient for the weather to run its course-- no more snow please! It needs to be warmer. I have had the recent pleasure of sampling the fare of STL. The Bleeding Deacon is awesome and reminds me of the sweet spot in Denver. Today was the long drive up to Grafton, IL to have the Mediterranean Bowtie Pasta at the Mississippi Half Step. I miss my global noodle but was thrilled to get a taste of it today. So many memories associated with food and music. I am forming new ones now. And I like them- but I fear they could vanish any moment.

Tomorrow studio time- I need to work on my drawing skills. I got to develop my bleeding shower drawings.

Hello Kitty Birthday Sweet-stravagaza!

Well I was pleasantly surprised for today's special brunch. I am lucky to have friends who would create delightful food for my 30th. I sorely miss my NY crew after a day like this. BUT- I am sure they would appreciate the apple pie with gravy for its palette pleasing oddity. Today was great, the weather was gorgeous and I got to spend some time outside enjoying the breeze and the all-together beautiful friendships I have. I am very lucky and privileged to know so many.

Pictures depict hello kitty shaped biscuits and an apple pie a la gravy. All culinary creations were amazing. There was also bacon jam which I still wish I hated.

---- off to the gym tomorrow!

A day for MLK

And the crazy stuff in the world--

I learned not to run away today. I saw a man running at Laumeier with a Snorkel. I also saw fecal batman and a dead squirrel.

You know pretty average.
